Story of Host TAKA & CHABI

Taka & Chabi

I (TAKA) and Chabi are almost always together.

Chabi loves people and will probably come to you for attention — he enjoys being petted.
But sometimes, he may give you a gentle little bite (just a small one, don’t worry!).

Please do not let Chabi go outside freely.
If he goes out, he must wear a harness and leash — this is very important.

Our Story

Let me share a little story about how we met.

In July 2022, while I was guiding a river trip, I found Chabi in the water.
He had been thrown from a bridge and abandoned.

Chabi and his sibling were both struggling and close to drowning, but I was able to rescue them in time.

For about a month, I lived with both cats.
Eventually, his sibling found a new home with a family.

Chabi, however, did not.

After a month, he was still with me, alone.

I wasn’t sure what to do at first.
To be honest, I had never been particularly interested in cats — and I even had a mild cat allergy.

But Chabi is a very affectionate cat, and in the end, I decided we would live together.

Thankfully, my allergy turned out to be mild — just a little itch sometimes.

Life Together

During the guiding season, when I had to leave for work, Chabi always seemed a little lonely.

By then, I was already completely attached to this little cat.

A friend once told me about a real story of a street musician who traveled with a cat on his shoulder.
That gave me an idea — maybe we could try something similar.

So I got a harness and leash and started taking Chabi outside.

At home, he often sat on my shoulder, so I tried walking with him like that… and it worked.

Even when I rode a bicycle, he stayed calmly on my shoulder.
In fact, he seemed to enjoy it more when we were moving.

Now

Chabi is now my essential companion.

We go cycling together, paddle rivers, and sometimes even go hiking.

He’s not a big fan of cars, though.
He doesn’t like the sound, so maybe one day I’ll need to get an electric car for him.

At Keraya

For safety reasons, Chabi does not join my guided tours.

But when you stay at Keraya, he will be very happy to meet you.

Please feel free to spend time with him — he is a very friendly cat.

…just be aware, he might give you a little bite. 😄
